Most the Program
The Ohio Country Academy Section of Internal Medicine provides a unique and dynamic learning environment for residents, stressing the importance of clinical excellence and dedication to scholarship. We receive some of the well-nigh medically complex cases across Ohio and neighboring states, and the volume of patients we treat gives each resident a rich and diverse training experience. Despite the challenge of providing such care, Ohio State benefits from truthful camaraderie between residents and kinesthesia that focus on excellent patient intendance and resident pedagogy. And, our residents acquire from one another as our medical teams frequently comprise members of our categorical, primary care, Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine, and Physician Scientist Training Programme residencies.
Aside from clinical excellence, Ohio State provides endless opportunities for scholarly achievement. Whether through our structured Research Rails or faculty-mentored projects, our residents consistently publish in high bear on peer-reviewed journals and present their work at major national and international conferences. Nosotros too provide a comprehensive Leadership Curriculum which gives each resident a toolset for navigating the nuanced challenges that doctors will face throughout their careers. Finally, we are dedicated to accomplish all these goals while maintaining a culture of wellness. Our fellows work with eight principal care geriatricians. In 2016, our team of geriatricians saw 7,500 outpatients, cared for 1,835 inpatients and visited 377 patients in transitional care organizations. Ohio State University Wexner Medical Eye is a 971-bed, medical and surgical teaching hospital with over 45,000 admissions in 2014. OSU's emergency room, with over 120,000 annual visits, opened an eight bed Geriatric Unit in 2015. Nationally ranked in seven adult specialties and "loftier-performing" in another eight developed specialties, including geriatrics (which currently is ranked 44th in the country), OSUWMC has led the Midwest region for 22 years in The states News & World Written report's "America'south Best Hospitals" rankings. Our College of Medicine ranks 12th in the country amid public universities in the mag's "America's Best Graduate Schools." On Best Doctors Inc.'south nearly recent "Best Doctors in America" list, 79% of the central Ohio honorees were Ohio Land faculty. Adopting Epic in 2011, OSUWMC has been recognized equally one of the nation's "Most Wired Hospitals" eleven times by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, more than than any hospital in Ohio. Mentors in Internal Medicine
Early establishment of mentors is encouraged and facilitated past the design of our training program. Nosotros begin linking you with possible mentors during orientation. Based on career interests, interns are linked to faculty that can provide further advice and guide the intern through a scholarly project every bit part of their career development elective and maybe additional months.
